Hopefully when I come back from vacation, I will be able to work on the projects I have planned for all of this fiber!!! I purposefully left it with a tie dye look. I cannot wait to see how the silk hankies and caps work with my ideas-the colors are really soft and I was happy with how well the dye set when I was rinsing...the water was almost completely clear.
They look gorgeous, Kelly! I have just started using acid dyes to do small batch dying in the microwave. The merino/silk looks great, but seems hard to Nuno into fabric. Will keep at it!! The colors are hard to beat when you dye yourself...

Graet photos. You can really see the shine in the silk fibres! Looking forward to seeing some more of your projects!
ReplyDeleteThanks to both of you! Sharon, I have a really hard time nuno felting into the silk. Heather, a felter who has a great blog, mentioned using silk gauze in a project that she made. I bought some and find it is so much easier for me as a beginner. The weave is much more open on the gauze than it is on the silk fabric and allows the fibers to migrate much faster. On the dyeing front, I use the microwave to steam set the dyes. Boiling the wool scares me to death...I would just end up with a solid felted mess if I did that! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful fiber!!! I can't wait to see what you make with it upon your return!
ReplyDelete(See...I'm not the only one who makes her readers wait!!) Giggle.
Have a safe and restful vacation.
